THE MRC – Framework & Location

The Mission Resource Center (MRC) has begun operations.

MRC will become a treasure trove of past and present information about mission work in Taiwan, helping us learn from the past and aiding us in making better decisions for tomorrow. However, we need every TMF member’s help to realize this goal.

1. Origin of Production:

The material should come from TMF members/missionaries or Morrison graduate of (former) TMF Member parents.

Books about local tribal languages are welcome as long as they were written by a TMF missionary and used for bible translation purposes.

2. Kind of Material:

Books, articles, photographs, videos or films, discs, courses for lectures, things which were developed for the sole purpose of advancing the gospel in Taiwan among its people. It can be (very) old or (still) in use, but should be brought in a condition, that others can appreciate it.

Unwanted books are:

English, German, Norwegian, Finnish etc. language teaching books regardless for what language group on the island the language books training material in those languages were written, please no (mission) games, no toys, no paintings and artifacts, no old cloths etc, since the MRC is a mission library and not a TMF museum.

3. Languages:

The Material gathered for the TMF MRC can be written/printed  in all those languages which either were or are spoken by TMF missionaries or are/were spoken by Taiwanese in Taiwan.

4. Topics of utmost interest are:

Life-Stories of TMF members in their mission context in Taiwan, Mission-Research related publications, theological contributions to local theology development, contributions about Taiwans church/mission history, anthropological studies, medical relief related projects, language learning, history of mission organizations in Taiwan, and Third Culture Family life style.

5. Digitalized available Information:

Is most welcome too and will be considered in our establishment of the TMF Internet MRC, which is currently being started by Scott Pagel.

Every TMF Missionary with a valid TMF Card (not an old one)is eligible to access the TMF MRC at Morrison Taichung.

Card Required:
TMF-Cards can be obtained upon request for free, when the dues are paid at our TMF office. Please note, that those without this card are not able to profit of TMF’s new Mission Research Center! The Morrison librarian staff offered to do the handling of TMF’s MRC for free.

In return the high school students are allowed to use TMF’s research material for their papers too. Please note, that the TMF card does not automatically allow TMF missionaries to access the Morrison library for free and ask for the condition related to it at place.

7. Purpose:

Above all the purpose of the TMF MRC is to serve the need of understanding our own history in Taiwan, to learn from our "TMF fathers and mothers" for our present work and finally to open the window for meaningful research in the science of mission in an increasingly internationalizing world mission society, for which the churches in Taiwan also prepare adequately.

Damage of MRC items:
Books have to be given back the way in the same condition or better as they were when obtained. It is expected that self caused damage on personal expense by those who used them.

TMF members who lose items are fully responsible for replacement and must pay the cost of the item plus the shipping or mailing fee. If the books are out of print the TMF member can ask in the TMF membership in order to quickly purchase a copy at his own expense within six months time.

If another copy of the lost book can not be obtained because the book is out of print, either a good quality donation that fits the criteria as an equivalent replacement or a penalty fee of 1500.- NT$ shall be paid to the TMF-MRC.

A more diverse categorization is written already, however it can only be applied according to the kind of books etc. donated to the MRC. If the books are out of print copies it is legally allowed to copy them, but please look for a suitable copy-shop  on your own.
