Have you ever wondered about how education levels and income levels of the local populace might correlate with the relative strength of Protestant churches in different parts of Taiwan? There is now a tool on your TMF website that helps answer those questions!  There is a complete set of 135 maps on the TMF website's "TMF Mission Resource Center".  These maps look at the geographic distribution of the Protestant churches of Taiwan in relation to the medium income of individuals and five different measures of educational attainment.  This set of six maps is given for every county and major city so that you can get a detailed look at every part of Taiwan.

Welcome to the TMF website!

2009 TMF Conference June Update

Greetings Taiwan Co- Laborer:

It’s just a few weeks now until this year’s TMF conference, July 13-17 and my last chance to give you an update:

1)  This year we will continue with the “Resource and Ministry Fair”.  Many people have asked for more opportunities to find out what others are doing in ministry and what resources are being used and developed.  This year we are going to provide an opportunity for this to happen.  We are going to provide a large amount of time for people to mingle together and share what is going on in their ministries.  We invite you to set up a display table presenting your ministry and or resources or just come and talk to others about what you are doing as you look around at the displays and resources.  We will try to provide an area with groups of chairs so that groups can sit down together and discuss a certain aspect of ministry.  If you would like a table for the fair, please send a message to the conference chairperson at 這個email住址已經被防垃圾郵件程式保護,你需要啟動Javascript才能觀看

Announcing TMF community group
TMF community group: http://groups.google.com/group/tmf-community

We're launching a new service for TMF members we hope you will enjoy. Members have been requesting a place where we can communicate by email about things we think our fellow members might like to know.

This could include events where we welcome cooperation or involvement of others, personal news, and prayer requests, or even things we haven't yet thought about. It will be a place where we can share information from one member with others without sending a direct email from TMF itself. At this point we're limiting the group to active TMF members, so anything you post that requests a response should list your own contact information, not someone else.

We have some initial moderators, who will approve messages. The basic standards, like other online groups, is to show respect to each other both in the volume of postings and the tenor of postings (e.g., love your neighbor and don't hog the airspace). But ultimately the group will be successful if we use it to stir one another up to love and good deeds in our common calling, encourage one another, and enjoy it together. We hope it works!

All the best, your current TMF chair, Steve

2009 TMF Conference March Update

Christian Storytelling

Taiwan Missionary Fellowship 2009 Conference

July 13-17

Dear co-worker,

Here’s what you want to know and why you won’t want to miss this year’s TMF Conference.

Christian Storytelling : This year’s theme is a response to the surging interest in telling Bible stories as a means of reaching those far from God, especially the grassroots people of Taiwan. Leading storytellers and conference speakers, John Walsh and Mike Lockett, will not only speak about Christian Storytelling, but Conference participants will also have a chance to learn how to and practice telling Bible stories. There will even be a story meal. So it won’t just be hearing; there will be a chance for doing as well.

TMF Newsletter 2009 March

Hello, fellow TMFers,

TMF is a cooperative community of people with a commitment to international ministry in Taiwan. We offer both full membership to people who are actively engaged in international ministry in Taiwan with a ministry organization associated with TMF, as well as associate membership to individuals who are like-minded friends and associates.

We seek to engage in cooperative efforts that further our mutual goals and support and encourage our community. These include...

  • an annual conference, traditionally held in the summer
  • an annual directory, listing both TMF members as well as friends and organizations of interest to TMF members, for the personal use of our members
  • a website, providing access to our publications online as well as announcements and other web features
  • international ministry publications, including the Taiwan Mission magazine and research maps in English and Chinese showing township-specific information about churches and communties throughout Taiwan
  • a counseling ministry, the Center for Counseling and Growth (CCG,) with offices in Taichung and Taipei available for consultations and referrals
  • cooperative retreats, such as the highly valued womens' retreats
  • a cooperative voice to advocate for matters of common interest to our community

I'd like to highlight a few things you may be interested in as you receive this mailing:

  • Judy Long, lpc, and Bob Long, retired MD, have returned to Taiwan this spring and are available for consultations, referral, visits, or tea through the Taichung office of CCG (and TMF.) They'll be here through July. Please take advantage of their availibility. Thank you, Judy and Bob!
  • Dr. Ling Huei Wang and associates have opened a CCG Taipei office which is available to you as well. All of CCG's counselors are committed Christians with training in Christian counseling care and ministry. CCG invites Christian counselors to associate with us in providing ministry, so if you are interested or know someone who is, contact Dr. Wang to discuss whether this would be beneficial. Remember that CCG provides care on a contribution basis as a Christian ministry. All our current Chinese associates are also licensed and supervised under the Taiwan licensure laws for psychotherapists.
  • The annual conference will be here before we know it. This year's dates are July 13th & 17th . Please check the enclosed conference chairman's announcement for more update information.
  • We have a couple new initiatives we're exploring. One is the sponsorship of short term international volunteers who would serve the people of Taiwan through our member organizations. Please contact Nancy Gu at the TMF office if you are interested in this pilot project. A second is the formation of an email list (or lists?) that would allow members to share information of mutual interest, such as upcoming events or ministry opportunities that might be of interest to the TMF community. Please contact Wolf Xu at the TMF office if you have input or interest in this project.

I'm writing you from Colorado Springs, but my heart is with you as we serve in ministry together. Thank you for your partnership and for the chance to be part of this fellowship together!

Yours in fellowship, Steve

Steve Spinella, your duly appointed TMF director

PS Just a reminder that our annual directory is available to current members of TMF for personal use. If you know of anyone who would like a directory, but did not receive one, please contact Nancy or Wolf to verify their membership or add them to our fellowship. Some members choose not to publish their information in the directory, but if you see wrong information, please let us know. We'll be happy to process the corrections and also to keep track of information we've received since the last directory in case you need it.

Information About Permanent Residence Status Application

Dear Members,

Perhaps you may have heard that Taiwan's government offers foreigners permanent residence status. How could you benefit from this policy? For those of you interested in permanent residency, the following website gives relevant information.

http://iff.immigration.gov.tw/enfront/life.php?tr_id=2&id=283

The basic condition for this status is time. You need to have lived in Taiwan for at least 7 years, and in each of those years your time inside the country must have exceeded 183 days. Among other things you need a health check, proof of income, and a verification of your criminal record (hopefully a lack of one!) from your home country. Also, if you are granted permanent residency, you need to continue to stay in Taiwan for over 183 days per year or risk losing your special status. This can be a good thing for those who play a long stay here. For greater detail, please read the website information or speak directly with relevant government officials. Hope this helps! In Jesus, Karl Schulz, Administrative Chairman
